It has been widely reported that Google’s number one search criteria for hiring is now the candidate’s learning ability or what is also called cognitive ability.
Google’s senior vice president of people operations interviewed with The New York Times and noted that “GPAs are worthless as a criteria for hiring, and test scores are worthless… we found that they don’t predict anything. For every job, the No. 1 thing we look for is general cognitive ability. It’s learning ability, to process on the fly, to pull together disparate bits of information.”
For many years a person’s cognitive abilities have been considered the best predictor of an individual’s pace of learning and, consequently, the individual’s potential to perform on the job. Many experts and leading companies regard the assessment of cognitive abilities perhaps even more important than personality checks.
General cognitive abilities have the greatest impact on job performance because they directly enhance a person’s ability to gain job knowledge. Introducing PLI – a scientifically validated management tool that offers fresh understanding of the individual logical basis that makes people work.
